CASE STUDY:
syracuse
navy week

Each year, the US Navy selects a small number of cities across the country to host “Navy Week,” and in 2024, Syracuse was chosen for the honor. To ensure success, the Navy Office of Community Outreach (NAVCO) sought out LP&M/AMPL to serve as their local, boots-on-the-ground connection to Syracuse media, government, industry, education and community groups.

Our team spent months working as a guide for NAVCO and using our decades of connections in Central New York to:
- Craft a multi-faceted strategy of marketing and PR initiatives
- Spark the interest of local media
- Engage with relevant influencers
- Make introductions to key stakeholders
- Pave the way for maximum positive exposure for the Navy

LP&M’s efforts made it possible for Rear Admiral Stephen “Josh” Jackson, the Navy Band Northeast and more than 60 sailors to interact with the community, engage with local youth, volunteer at charitable organizations and more. The long list of events and activities included:
- City/County Joint Proclamation on the steps of City Hall
- Admiral honored as “Hometown Hero” at Syracuse University football game
- Multiple Navy-themed events at NY State Fair’s Armed Forces Day
- Sailors donating their time to assist the Mary Nelson Foundation, Food Bank of CNY, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and other non-profit entities
- Navy Oceanographer appearance on local TV weather forecasts
- Executive meetings between admiral and local defense contractors
- Admiral tour of the Veterans insitute at Syracuse University
- Navy Band Master Class workshops at OCC and SU
- Meeting with local high school Navy Cadet Corps students
- And many, many additional events!
NAVCO’s stated goal was to foster strong connections with local businesses, schools and organizations, generate robust media coverage and showcase the vital role of the Navy within the Syracuse community. LP&M is proud to say we helped them accomplish every aspect of that goal.
